If I read beforehandDec 29, 2009 If I had payed close attention to the editor review, i would not have bought this item. The song selection and the sound is good; as is the packaging....except the liner notes are only on a pdf file on the CD. The idea of a CD and an LP , is to have the liner notes and LP/CD cover in hand to enjoy while listening to the music. I may as well have downloaded or ripped the music otherwise.
sly and the family stoneDec 20, 2009 this cd is totally cool to hear them songs again for any fans how love these songs of the 70's for you collection this is the one.
Fine collection, has one or two songs more than Epic version.Aug 27, 2009 I bought this collection because as well as the hits, unlike the Epic version; which I bought, probably should have bought this only, it had "Family Affair" other one doesn't (unless get "Essential"). Nice funk, soul, 60's music. Like I want to take you higher and everyday people especially, a message we should all take up; accepting people as they are, "different strokes for different folks", most of us are everyday people, a message to all, like I said. Very cool.

"The Best Single Disc Collection To Date"Jul 02, 2009 "Playlist: The Very Best Of Sly & The Family Stone"...I stumbled upon this one, completely by accident! and I'm so glad that I did. I like to compare this CD to the "Greatest Hits" and "Anthology" albums. Between the 2 the "Greatest Hits" was actually my favorite Sly & the Family Stone compilation because it had 12 of Sly's most essential recordings between 1968 and 1970 and unlike the 20 track "Anthology" album, never got to the point of being boring...after 7 minutes of 'Thank You For Talking To Me Africa' I found myself getting anxious for the "Anthology" to end. "The Very Best Of Sly & The Family Stone" has just enough FUNK to keep the listener to stay in the groove from the beginning to end and include some of Sly's later classics..."Family Affair", "Runnin' Away", "Smilin'", "If You Want Me To Stay" and closes with "I Get High On You" Sly's last significant 'HIT' on the Epic record label. Between the "Greatest Hits", "Anthology" and "Best Of S&TFS" the "Playlist: Very Best Of Sly & The Family Stone" is the one that gets my vote!
